Obverse: The obverse features a right facing portrait of a Native American Chief, with his hair gathered, braided, and accented with feathers. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “2023,” Fraser’s initial “F” and the “W” Mint mark.
Reverse: An American buffalo is illustrated on the reverse, standing upon a flattened patch of earth bearing the inscriptions “$50” and “1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.” The imagery of the majestic creature is based upon an animal named Black Diamond that lived in the New York City Central Park Zoo in the early 1900s. Additionally inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
