Why purchase this 2023-W $50 1 oz Gold Buffalo Proof?
The Gold Buffalo Series started in 2006 as an American option for collectors who wanted something purer than the .9167 fine Gold Eagle. The series has grown in popularity since then, thanks in large part to the fact that it takes its designs from a beloved coin from America’s past, the 1913 Buffalo Nickel. This 2023-W Proof provides a fantastic option for those looking for classic designs executed with modern minting standards.
- This coin is $50 U.S. legal tender.
- This coin was struck from 1 oz of .9999 fine gold.
- The coin bears the “W” mint mark of the West Point Mint.
- This coin has a beautiful proof finish.
Featuring James Earle Fraser’s Classic Buffalo Design
Obverse: This coin’s designs come from James Earle Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel. On the obverse is a right-side composite portrait of a Native American man. The artist’s last initial, “F,” is inscribed on his shoulder. Also inscribed on this face are the date, “2023,” and the word “LIBERTY.”
Reverse: On the reverse is an American bison in the left-side profile. The statutory mottos “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are inscribed below its head and above its back, respectively. Other inscriptions on this face read, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “$50,” and “1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.” James Earle Fraser was a prolific sculptor whose work continues to remain on display throughout much of the Washington, DC area.
Flawless PF70 UC FDI with Black Core Holder
The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) graded this piece Proof 70, thus indicating that it appears perfect under 5x magnification. They also indicated that the coin has deeply mirrored fields and heavily frosted devices by certifying it Ultra Cameo. If that’s not enough, NGC also certified this piece First Day of Issue, indicating the coin was submitted to grading within 24 hours of its official release date, before it was set in a striking black core holder.
